Elie J. Cheramie, 93, a native of Galliano, La., and a resident of Cut Off, La., died Thursday, December 4, at 7:40 p.m.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Galjour Cheramie; parents, Leoca and Euziede Adams Cheramie; brothers, Andrew A. Cheramie and Mark J. Cheramie; and sisters, Mercedes C. Guidry, Odaia C. Pierce and Alzire C. Lefort.


He was a former oil worker, state trooper, hardware store owner, president of Cheramie Marsh Buggies for 54 years, and served on the board of directors for Citizens Bank, First Interstate Bank, Argent Bank and Hibernia Bank. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association and enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Rosary Catholic School.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, December 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with mass to follow. He will be buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cut Off.
