Elvie Frankie Rivers Cosby, 89, a native of Zwolle, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.


Mrs. Cosby was a member of Coteau Baptist Church and a former employee of The Houma Courier.

She is survived by her sons, Jack “Frank” (Gilda), Roy (Judy) and David Cosby; sister-in-law, Norma Cosby; adopted son, Kenneth (Barbara) Martin; daughters, Mary Melancon, Sally “Marie” Disotell, and Frances (Harold) Bourque; 25 grandchildren, Tina (Billy) Achee, Lisa (Michael) Nickel, Kami Schieffler, Phillip Desotell, Cathy (Herman) Pellegrin, Rhonda (Glenn) Sanders, Elvie “Becky” LeBouef, Sherie Duplantis, Michelle (William) Tompkins, Dwayne (Dawn) Disotell, Craig, Mark and Brian Cosby, Laura (Alan) Jambon, Paulette (Corey) Trahan, Darrell Bourque, Kimberly (Sylas) Martin, Harold “Jay” (Renetta) Bourque, Kandace (Jonah) Lawson, Teresa Tullis, Connie (Paul) Vedros, David J.B. Cosby, Shane Punch, and Donald and Samuel Martin; and 38 great-grandchildren, Marissa, Ian, Donovan and Elizabeth Achee, Joshua (Gyeong Won “Cindy”) Hue, Kirstie Schieffler, Emily (Chad) Parfait, Joshua and Ryan Pellegrin, Angelica and Ashley Burton, Jason and Corey Lebouef, Randy Bergeron, Chasity (Perry) Valliant, Dustin and Destiny Duplantis, Nathan and Devin Tomkins, Ricky and Tommy Disotell, Logan and Carson Jambon, Kara (Beau) Courville, Cody Trahan, Dawson Cosby, Megan Martin, Robert (Erica Taylor) Gros, Kristen (Michael) Smith; Allegra, McKayla and JeSon Bourque, Alisha Lawson, Douglas Tullis, Dylan, Jacob and Benjamin Vedros and Kyle Robichaux.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Brown Cosby; son, Chester Cosby; grandson, James Cosby; one son-in-law, Leslie Disotell; two daughter-in-laws, Cammy Atwood Cosby and Uronia Authement; one granddaughter-in-law, Tina Disotell; father, Frank Junior Rivers; mother, Mary Elizabeth Ezernack Martin; stepfather, Joseph Martin; one sister, Ruby McBrayer; three brothers, Raymond, Andrew and Johnny Martin; and her brother-in-law, J.K. Cosby.

She is buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
