Emile J. “Mickey” Borne, 90, a native of Paincourtville, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, April 11, at 12:18 a.m.


He is survived by his children, Suzanne B. Hebert, Emile J. Jr. and Jacqualine T. Borne, all of Thibodaux, Cecile B. and Dale J. Benoit, of Madisonville, Marilyn B. and Gary Harper, of Houston, Tx., and Mitchell “Tom” and Norma C. Borne, of Houston; siblings, Elsie B. Marroy, Mercedes B. Daigle and Gerald Borne, all of Baton Rouge, La., Bessie B. Landry of Paincourtville, Lilia B. Landry and Medric “Pete” Borne, of Metairie, La., and Verna B. Daigle and Jules Borne Jr., of Napoleonville, La.; grandchildren, Freddie Hebert of Thibodaux, Lindsey Harper, Sarah Harper, Catherine Harper and Mitchell Borne, all of Houston, Lauren B. Sonnier of Lafayette, La., Erin B. Pitre of Houma, La., Megan C. Rowe of Slidell, La., Emile “Mickey” Borne III, Emily B. Kirkham, both of Raceland, La., and Courtney B. Garris of Metairie; and great-grandchildren, Macy Hebert, Alexander Hebert, Andre Hebert, Joseph Sonnier, Evan Sonnier and Victoria Kirkham.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ann “Princess” Daigle Borne; parents, Jules and O Noelie Ordoyne Borne; siblings, Agnes Borne, Marie Borne, Mack Borne, Preston Borne and Rita Borne; son-in-law, George V. Hebert; and granddaughter, Francis “Frannie” Hebert.

He worked for Westfield Plantation from 1932 to 1935, and Jules Borne Blacksmith Shop from 1935 to 1941. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 as a tool maker, motor vehicle mechanic and motor pool sergeant. His unit served in North Africa, Italy and France and he received a Purple Heart for an injury he received in a combat zone. After he returned home, he worked for Thomson Machinery Company from 1946 to 1962, WHC Inc, Mazarac Shipyard and McDermott Inc. from 1962 to 1963, and Cameco Industries from 1964 to 1982. After his retirement he stayed active with a commercial fishing venture and specialty tool fabrication. From 1986 to 2006, he dedicated his life to caring for his ailing wife until her death. He was a member of the VFW Thibodaux Memorial Post 5097. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Thibodaux.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux with mass to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
