Emile Joseph Bourgeois Sr., 82, a native and resident of Donner, La., passed into God’s kingdom while at home surrounded by loved ones Thursday, May 21.


He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores Louviere Bourgeois; three sons, Dale Bourgeois Sr., and wife, Denise, Emile Bourgeois Jr. “Jay” and wife, Mona, and Mark Bourgeois and wife, Carol; three daughters, Brenda B. Fanguy, Judy B. Toups and husband, Denny, and Emily B. Benoit and husband, Leroy; 13 grandchildren, Ted Fanguy, Tina F. Dudek, Dawn T. Tyler, Denise T. Gautreaux, Denny Toups Jr., Melissa B. Tabor, Dale Bourgeois Jr., Jason Bourgeois, Bridget B. Denicola, Brandon “B.J.” Benoit, Jamie J. Bourgeois, and Brad and Brooke Bourgeois; three step-grandchildren, Toby McDonald, and Tammy and Jay Lofton; 17 great-grandchildren, Olivia Fanguy, Maddox and Mason Dudek, Megan and Cole Tyler, Emma Gautreaux, Hunter and Julia Toups, Haley and Morgan Tabor, Payne, Alayna, Khristopher, Lexi, Madison, and Jayden Bourgeois, and Avery Denicola; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence LeRay and Augustine Gaspar; and his twin brother, Emilca Bourgeois.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Francis “P.T.” Fanguy; his parents, Aurelien and Alice Hebert Bourgeois; three brothers, Clifford, Abby, and Irvin Bourgeois; and three sisters, Anita Benoit, Louise LeBlanc, and Aline Ayo.


Emile served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a retired welder. He loved working in his vegetable garden and enjoyed fishing and trawling. He was a past recipient of the Bishop’s Medal at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Chacahoula, La. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and many dear friends.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Thibodaux Funeral Home and 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Chacahoula, La. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons, Ted Fanguy, Denny Toups Jr., Dale Jr. and Jason Bourgeois, B.J. Benoit, Toby McDonald, and Brad and Jamie Bourgeois.
