Emily L. Lovell, 91, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, La., died Monday, March 17.


She is survived by her son, Archie J. Lovell and wife, Roslie, of Morgan City, La.; daughter, Gloria L. Gregory and husband, Eugene, of Thibodaux, La.; grandchildren, Carrine Lovell Anderson and husband, Randy, Deirdre Lovell DiMaggio and husband, Gregory, Eric J. Lovell and wife, Kim, Steven Gregory and wife Lori, Mark Gregory and wife, Claire; great-grandchildren, Adrianna Anderson, Aiden Anderson, Aimee DiMaggio, Ian DiMaggio, Zachary Lovell, Kaylee Lovell, Justin Schultz and wife, Josie, Kelson Fos, Diana Gregory Lee and husband, Wes, Carolyne Gregory Grajewski and husband, Joe, Sarah Gregory, Lauren Gregory and Jade Gregory; brother, Sidney Lovell and wife, Jean, of Houma; and many beloved nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Wallace Lovell; her parents, Sidney and Adnise Lirette Lovell; brothers, William, Thomas and Julius Lovell; sisters, Mrs. Preston (Helen) Dugas, Mrs. Ernest (Victoria) Porche and Mrs. Esten (Mary) Fangue; grandchildren, Matthew Gregory and Stephanie Gregory Schultz Fos and husband, Don; and great-grandchild, Emily Carolyn Lovell, daughter of Eric and Kim Lovell.

She was a fourth-generation descendant of Perry Lovell, a pioneer of Bayou Dularge. She married Norbert Wallace Lovell, son of Augustin Lovell and Ozia Frederick. She was educated in the St. Andrews Episcopal Mission and School on Bayou Dularge. She was known by many as “Big Sis” and “Big Nanny.” To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was known fondly as “Mu Mu.” She was a caretaker of many of her immediate family and others. She will be missed by all who knew and loved this giving person.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Chauvin Funeral Home with religious services to follow. Interment will be at St. Eloi Masoleum.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
