Emma “Ma” August, 95, a native of Belle Rose, La., died at Gonzales Healthcare Center in Gonzales, La., Sunday, December 14.

She is survived by seven daughters and spouses, Laura Rodrigue, Elsie and Allen Parker, all of New Orleans, La., Brenda and Williams Jackson of LaPlace, La., Patricia August of Brooklyn, N.Y., Marion and Otis Williams and Beverly Jordan, all of Donaldsonville, La., and Mildred and Clarence Williams of Prairieville, La.; four sons and spouses, Louis and Mae Pearley, Albert and Josie Harris of Los Angeles, Ca., and Freddie Jr. and Glen August of Belle Rose; one brother, Lloyd Harris of Houma, La.; 52 grandchildren; 102 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie August Sr.; her parents, Emile and Angeline Harris; two daughters, Delta August and Catherine August Brown; six brothers, Albert, Ernest, Herman, Joseph, Steve and Van; four sisters, Ernestine, Hazel, Martha and Helen; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, at Rose Hill Baptist Church in Belle Rose with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home of Napoleonville, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
