Ernest “Bellpepper” Thomas Sr., 72, a native and resident of Napoleonville, La., died at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Thursday, July 10.


He is survived by one daughter, Darlene Davis and husband, Olden, of Napoleonville; two sons, William Thomas and wife, Lorena, of Chicago, Il., and Eric Thomas and wife, Patricia, of Gibson, La.; one sister, Pearley Mae Hill of Donaldsonville, La.; one daughter-in-law, Lydia Thomas of Thibodaux, La.; seven grandchildren; and numerous relatives.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Crowley Thomas; one son, Ernest Thomas Jr.; his parents, George and Josie Carter Thomas; five brothers, Edward, Walter, George, Lawrence and Gerald Thomas; and two sisters, Rebecca Thomas and Jackie Quiett.

He was a retired laborer and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 17 and the Valley Park Social Club.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Williams and Southall Funeral Home in Napoleonville and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Bright Morning Star Baptist Church in Napoleonville. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home of Napoleonville is in charge of the arrangements.
