Ernest C. “Black” Matherne Sr., 76, a native and resident of Larose, La., died Wednesday, June 18 at 8:40 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Lorecia Creppel Matherne, sons, Johnny Matherne and wife Deidre of Lockport, La., and Michael Matherne of Larose; daughters, Dianne Matherne of Larose, Audrey Matherne of Larose and Melissa Ramsey and husband Jason of Jeanerette, La.; brother, Clifton Matherne of Grandberg, Tx.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Camille and Euliza Billiot Matherne; son, Ernest Matherne Jr.; daughter, Nancy Matherne; brothers, Lawrence Matherne, Anthony Matherne and Joseph Matherne; and sisters, Gladys Beniot, Daisy Fitch and Barbara Boudreaux.
He was a retired bridge tender. He was Catholic and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Larose.
Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, followed by mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. He will be buried at the church cemetery.
Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
