Ernest J. Breaux Jr., 90, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Saturday, November 22, at 3:30 p.m.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ada Aupied Breaux; and his nieces and nephew who cared for him as a father, Lorraine Gaudet and husband Benton, Barbara Forest and husband Elge, and Euclid Danos and wife Elsie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Breaux Sr. and Justine Brown Breaux; brothers, Philip, Pierre, Alcide and Eddie “Jim” Breaux; and sisters, Clara Danos, Azilda Dugruise and Annie Danos.


He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3665 and the Raceland Senior Citizens Center. He served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class. He was a military policeman who assisted in the enforcement of military laws and regulations, maintenance of order and control of traffic. He also was a French interpreter for the General and officers while stationed in French speaking countries. He served overseas in the European Theater.

After his military duty, he returned to Raceland where he planted, cultivated and harvested cotton, corn and vegetables. It was his love and passion to give out his produce to all his friends. He was retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Raceland. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Raceland. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with burial at the church cemetery.
