Errol Jean Savoie, 62, a native of Mansfield, La., and resident of Baton Rouge, La., died Thursday June 17, 2010 after a fierce battle with pneumonia and leukemia.

Mr. Savoie is a graduate of St. Francis de Sales high school in Houma, La., and Louisiana State University. He earned a masters degree from Louisiana Tech and he served in the U.S. Air Force. He resumed his education at LSU and served as editor of the Daily Reveille in 1974. He joined International Paper, where he enjoyed a long career including positions as lobbyist, head of corporate public relations and corporate spokesperson. After he retired, Errol returned to South Louisiana, the place he loved, and continued the work he loved in PR and political consulting. There are very few others who follow the great game of politics and culture with the style, wit and savvy brought by Errol.

He is survived by his mother, Bertha Savoie; his son, Radley (Jill) Savoie; sisters, Patsy (John) Hunt and Olive Savoie; nieces and nephews, Rochelle and Adrian Hunt, Cheryl and Nick Celauro, Harold and Celeste Hunt, Louis and Catherine Belanger, John and Alana Belanger; and his dear friend and companion, Lisa Stansbury.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver “O.P.” Savoie.

To the doctors and staff at the Baton Rouge General ICU, we want to extend our most sincere and heartfelt thanks. Your care of Errol and his family made us feel as if we were a part of your family and for that we will be forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or other Veterans associated charity, lifeshare blood centers, the LSU Manship School, LPB or coastal restoration organizations.
