Lenten Gumbo served for 20 years, still going strong
March 19, 2010Essie Delaune Bascle Simpson, 95, a native and resident of Lockport, La., died at 11:22 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010.
Mrs. Simpson was a nurse at the Lockport Clinic.
She is survived by sons, Elmo Jr. and Ira (Brenda) Bascle; daughter, Jeannette (Alfred) Bouvier; sisters, Lucille “Lou” and Germaine Delaune; five stepchildren, Bill, Bruce, Justin and Gregory Simpson and Lynn “Bitsy” Muhs; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmo Bascle Sr.; second husband, Dr. W.L. Simpson; parents, Elfert and Margarite Bourgeois Delaune; three grandchildren, Rebecca G. Bouvier, Timothy Bascle and Brook Bouvier; brothers, Elsnert and Max Delaune; and sisters, Edith Morvant, Judith and Rita Guidroz.
She is buried at Holy Savior Catholic Church Cemetery.
