Esther “Lou John” Mitchell, 78, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Saturday, February 21.

She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Mitchell of Raceland; sons, Pernell Mitchell, Wayne Coleman, Leroy Mitchell and Edmond Mitchell all of Raceland; sisters, Ernestine Smith and Irma Coleman, both of Raceland; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmon Mitchell; parents, Edmond Sr. and Elvina Coleman; brothers, Frank, Edmond Jr., Chester, and James Coleman; and sister, Willie Mae Coleman.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Raceland with a religious service to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
