Etienne “Red” Adams, 93, a native of Mathews, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La., died at 4:42 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010.


Mr. Adams was a parishioner of St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. After retiring from John Smith Well Service, Mr. Adams’ hobbies were fishing and telling war and oilfield stories.

He is survived by his wife, Orena Clement Adams; daughter, Dolores Adams Sampey; stepchildren, Gerald and Michael Clement, and Gail C. Boudreaux; sister, Rosalie St. Pierre; four grandchildren, Matt Sampey, Clint Sampey, Nichole Arcement and Nadine Sampey; six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Molly and Max Sampey, Megan and Taylor Quinn, and Mason Arcement; five step-grandchildren, Jerilyn Field, Janisa Jennings, and Derek, Lacie and Tricia Clement; and three step-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie LeBlanc Adams; parents, Elias and Claudia Pierce Adams; one stepgrandson, Jonathan Boudreaux; brothers, Clairborne and Clement “Kim” Adams; and sisters, Alexcina Hebert, Aline Adams, Marie Knight and Viola Adams.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Raceland. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church.

He will be buried at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church Cemetery.
