Euphemie Prejean Authement, 89, a native of Gray, La., and a resident of Houma, La., entered into rest Thursday, January 14, at 3:15 p.m.

She is survived by her sons, John “Pat” Authement and wife Betty, Voorhies Authement and partner Craig Auld, and Anthony “Tony” Authement and wife Allie; daughter, Juanita Poindexter and husband Mike; sisters, Thelma Boudreaux and Vivian LeBeouf; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Loyman J. Authement; parents, Philibert and Julia Sonier Prejean; granddaughter, Fay Leger Hall; daughters, Gloria Prestenbach and husband Earl, and Annie Mae Leger; brothers, Leon Prejean, Herbert Prejean and Henry Prejean; and sisters, Anna Mae Hidalgo and Bessie Melancon.

Her hobbies were sewing and gardening. She was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She also belonged to the Lady’s Altar Society of St. Bernadette, and Lay Order of Carmalite. She was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 16, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with burial at St. Francis Cemetery No. 2.
