Failman Joseph Guilfou, 89, a native of Brusly St. Martin, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 2:02 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011.


Mr. Guilfou retired from Shell Oil Company as a mechanic and was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Unit Citation Award, American Defense Service Medal and the Eameto Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3700 and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Boudreaux Guilfou; daughter, Natalie (Allen) Ryan; son, Nathan (Rhonda) Guilfou; daughter-in-law, Ruth Guilfou; 10 grandchildren, Tate Ryan, and Andre, Russell, Claire, Jessica, Kenneth, Ryan, Kevin, Derek and Katie Guilfou; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Taylor Ryan; and sister, Palace Blanchard.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian Landry Guilfou; one son, Norman Guilfou; and one brother, Herman Guilfou.

He is buried at Terrebonne Memorial Park.
