Fernand J. Delatte, 85, a native and resident of Choctaw, La., died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010.


Mr. Delatte was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Campaign and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Retired from Avondale Shipyard, he was the first response fireman with the Choctaw Fire Dept. as well as Grand Marshal of the Choctaw Fire Dept. in 2005. He also served as an usher and eucharistic minister at St. James Chapel in Choctaw.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Molaison Delatte; son, Warren (Bea) Delatte; daughters, Sharon (Garry) Martinez and Valerie Cortez; brother, Noah Delatte; sisters, Eula Brock and Suzanne Ordoyne; five grandchildren, Angelle, Anna, Lenore, Andrea and Katie; and five great-grandchildren, Cody, Tory, Alexis, Connor and Amie.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Delatte and Bridget Ordoyne; brothers, Nore’ and Felix Delatte; one sister, Lena Benoit; and one son-in-law, Schuyler Cortez.

He is buried at St. James Chapel Cemetery.
