Francis “Popeye” Brunet, 83, a native of Theriot, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010.


Mr. Brunet was a member of Annunziata Catholic Church. He worked various oilfield jobs around the world with J. Ray McDermott and Santa Fe before returning to work in Houma, where he retired and opened his own seafood market, Popeye’s Seafood. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and a member of the Dularge Hunting Club.

He is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Danny) Allemand, Cindy (John) Dinger and Denise (Lee) Scherer; his son, Wayne (Karen) Brunet; sisters, Walterine Bourg, Grace (Charles) Clanton, Veronica (Murphy) Champagne and Ramona Alleman; brothers, Henry (Linda) and Ralph (Evelyn); six grandchildren, Toni Delcambre, Vicki (Patrick) Scott, Mark (Tonya) Allemand, Joshua Dinger, Jason (Leigh) Scherer and Danielle Brunet; one step-grandchild, Blake Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren, Caleb (Crystal) and Micah Delcambre, Alex and Abbi Scott, Lindsey and Emily Allemand; and Carly and Brady Taylor.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Brunet; mother, Lillian Voisin Brunet; father, Stanley Paul Brunet; three brothers, Floyd, S.P. and Ira Brunet; one granddaughter, Peggy Sue Allemand; one great-granddaughter, Patti Lynn Scott; and one step-granddaughter, Sommer Taylor.

He is interred at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
