Francis J. “Jerry” Helluin, 88, a native of Donaldsonville, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.


Mr. Helluin was a former terminal manager for Saia Motor Freight. He was a member of St. Anthony Council Knights of Columbus No. 9338 and a fourth degree assembly of August Vandebilt Council 2322. He enjoyed fishing and being at his camp and was a master at barbecue. He was inducted into the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984 and played professional football for the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Houston Oilers, winning the 1960 AFL championship with the Oilers.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maude T. Breaux Helluin; daughters, Jani LeGros, Janet (Bruce) Thigpen and Leslie (Dana) Harless; sons, Jay (Stella) and Jon Helluin; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial is at Bayou Black Cemetery in Bayou Black.
