Garland “Slick” Usea, 33, a native and resident of Chackbay, La., died at 5 a.m. Monday, October 27.


He is survived by his wife, Tina Usea; his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Lois Clement; two stepsons, Trevor and Tyler Cortez; one brother-in-law, Kirk Clement and wife Sabrena; two brothers, Louis Usea and wife Lory, and Terry Usea and wife Valerie; one sister, Alma Usea Brocil and companion Douglas Schexnayder; two nephews, Louis Jr. and Keith; five nieces, Minnie, Reba, Jennie, Kayla and Kelcie; two step-nephews, Kevin and Drew; and two great-nephews, Ethan and Connor.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Usea and Rosemary Rome Usea; his grandparents, Oveil Usea and Clarice Kraemer Usea and Nicholas Rome and Rose Landry Baudoin Rome; two nephews, baby Brock twins; and one sister, Angela Usea.

He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church in Kraemer, La., where he served on the pastoral council and as chancellor of Council 10800 of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer fireman and first responder for the Bayou Bouef, La., and Chackbay fire departments, as well as a licensed boat captain.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Kraemer with mass to follow.

Thibodaux Funeral Home in Thibodaux, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
