Gary William Brunies, 57, a native and resident of Grand Isle, La., died Wednesday, October 22.
He is survived by his mother, Vernice Vizier Brunies; his wife, Theresa Guidry Brunies; his most beloved son, Richard Gary Brunies; two adopted daughters, Nikki B. Brunies and Dana B. Bernier; and one granddaughter, Madison “Cher Petite” Brunies
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard H. Brunies Jr.
He was born July 27, 1951. He graduated from Grand Isle High School and attended Nicholls State University for two years. He was an employee of Grace Offshore, formerly Booker Drilling, for 20 years. He then went on to become self-employed as owner and operator of GWB Trucking Company. For several years, he also worked as a manager for Acme Truck Lines. Nine years ago, he opened Richard’s Conoco, a convenience store and deli, which quickly became a popular Grand Isle icon.
Gary will be forever cherished and remembered for the fierce love and loyalty he had for his family and friends. His quick wit and always-present sense of humor will allow for countless and endless happy memories for all who knew him. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and reading, but he mostly enjoyed spending time and having fun with his beloved family and friends. He will be missed greatly and never forgotten.
He was buried at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church Cemetery.
