Geralyn Bergeron Dunckelman, 52, a native of Thibodaux, La., and resident of Houma, La., died at her home Friday, April 23, 2010, after a two-month battle with uterine cancer.

A 1975 graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High, Mrs. Dunckelman earned a master’s degree in education in 1979 from Nicholls State University. She taught kindergarten and pre-school classes in Terrebonne Parish for 29 years. Mrs. Dunckelman was recognized by various nonprofits, corporations and governments for her resolve to help the less fortunate. She volunteered, was an avid traveler, animal lover and skilled cook.


She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Dunckelman; sons, Andrew and William Dunckelman; father, Lucien Bergeron; and siblings, Melinda Peterson, Brent Bergeron, Andreie Lasseigne and Marissa Bagala.

She is buried at St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Dunckelman’s honor are appreciated.
