Gladys Riley Carter, 79, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Friday, May 23.

She is survived by her daughters, Shelia McCoy and Linda Shelvy both of Thibodaux; sons, Alfred Carter Jr. of Leander, Tx., Wesley James Carter of Atlanta, Ga., Gerald B. Carter, and Romanuel G. Carter Sr. of Thibodaux, Ronald Sr. of Columbus Georgia and Brian Carter of Bowie, Md.; sister, Dorothy Banks of San Bernardo, Ca.; 19 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by husband, Alfred Carter Sr., parents, Velma Fletcher and Samuel Riley Sr.; daughter, Sandra Carter Jones; brothers, Samuel Riley Jr., and James J. Riley; sisters, Violet Adams and Greta Simms; and grandparents, Selina Shanklin Fletcher and Jack Fletcher.

She was Baptist. Her hobbies included shopping.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux with a religious service to follow. She will be buried at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
