Gordon Joseph Grow, 89, a native of Pharr, La., and resident of Morgan City, La., died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011.


Mr. Grow served with the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Tank Battalion in World War II and saw action in Tarawa Atoll, Saipan and Tinian. He contracted malaria during his service and was sent to the Marine barracks in Klamath Falls, Ore., to recover. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Ima.


He worked for Consolidated Freightways for 42 years and retired to a life of helping others and hunting and fishing. The family is extremely and forever indebted to all who gave care and comfort in his last years. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Stephens; sons, Richard and Steve Grow; sisters, Vada Breaux and Golden Mickler; brother, Ira Grow; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his special cat, Sammy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ima Grow; parents, Eugene and Levie Grow; and brothers, Wilbur and Edison Grow. (Twin City)
