Harold “Black” Anthony Pitre, 77, a native of Terrebonne, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died at 10:21 p.m. Wednesday, December 3.


He is survived by his wife, Virginia Trahan Pitre of Houma; two sons, Wayne Pitre and wife Gaynell of Montegut, La., and Christopher John Pitre and wife Jeannie of Houma; one daughter, Hollie Eschete and husband Billy Sr. of Montegut; grandchildren, Joshua Pitre, Kelly Pitre, Rusty Pitre, Billy “B.J.” Eschete Jr., Tiffany Pitre, Katie Eschete, Dustin Pitre and Kenneth Pitre; and five great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Pitre and Anicia Hebert Pitre; three brothers, Jules Pitre, Aaron Pitre and Albert Pitre; and five sisters, Libby Burch, Ilene Bonvillain, Elsie Mae Porche, Janette Buquet, Jennie Bergeron.

He was a self-employed carpenter and fisherman. He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9608, a past commander of the Marine Corps League and a member of the East Park Recreation and Volunteer Fire Department. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 6, at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial at the church cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
