Herman Bernell Smith, 51, a native of Thibodaux, LA. and resident of Schriever, LA., died at his residence Friday, January 19, 2007.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Williams and Southall Funeral Home in Thibodaux and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Calvery United Methodist Church. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.


He is survived by his wife, Charlene Brown Smith; two daughters, Annie and Ashanti Smith; one son, Dexter Smith; his parents, Sadie and Freddie Smith; three brothers, Calvin, Michael and Alfred Smith; two sisters, Carolyn Banks and Debra Wiggins; his mother-in-law, Audrey Coulon; his father-in-law, Phillip Dickerson Jr.; four brothers-in-law, Austin Banks Sr., Robert Wiggins, Michael Brown and Phillip Dickerson III; and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Early and Ernest Avery and Herman Banks; his godmother, Ruth Brown; and his father-in-law, Earl Coulon Jr.

He was a faithful member of Calvery United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the senior choir, assistant financial secretary, youth leader, Sunday school teacher and many other committees.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
