Ione Champagne Bonvillain, 86, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Thursday, March 21, 2013.


Mrs. Bonvillain and her husband Herman founded Houma Boat Works in 1950. Her love for her family and God was unwavering. She volunteered at church when the need was there. She was a parishioner of Annunziata Catholic Church where she was a member of the church choir. She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral choir, Ladies Altar Society, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Philanthropic Sorority and she was a founding member of the Krewe of Hyacinthians.


She is survived by her daughters, Janice Bonvillain and Kathy (Timothy) Canter; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bonvillain; parents, Joseph Sr. and Elbiner Champagne; and brother, Joseph Champagne II.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, at Annunziata Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. (Chauvin)
