Irene Matherne Pitre, 82, a native of Bourg, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Tuesday, March 15, 2011.


Mrs. Pitre was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church.


She is survived by her daughters, Sally (Leland Sr.) Crochet and Veronica Pitre; foster son, Maurice Pitre; foster daughter, Carmen Pullam Rushing; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Brent) Dhuet, Christine (Mitchell) Evans, Leland (Mitzi) Crochet Jr., and Tiffany and Zachary Meeks; nine great-grandchildren, Traci and Trisha Dhuet, Catherine, Thomas and Caroline Evans, Leland III, Haleigh and Allie Crochet and Alexandra Tucker; four great-great-grandchildren, Mackenzie McElroy, Bronson and Nicolas Tucker and Veda Leigh Crochet; and one step-great-grandchild, Jayce Mike.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Joseph Pitre; parents, Lawrence Jean Matherne Sr. and Allie Dupre Matherne; foster daughter, Gina Pullam; brothers, Horace, Lawrence Jr., Lee Sr., Carol, Augustine and Houston Matherne; and sister, Gertrude Porche.

She is buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. (Chauvin)
