Jerrel “Jerry” Gilmore Sr., a native of Berwick, La., died Wednesday, July 2.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laura Smith Gilmore; two sons, Kevin Gilmore and wife Nita of Broussard, La., Robin Gilmore and wife Kay of Houma, La.; one daughter, Karen Gilmore of Monroe, La.; two brothers, Selwyn “Sebbie” Gilmore and wife Mable of Houma, Gordon “Don” Gilmore of Morgan City, La.; three sisters, Ellen Fae Scherer of Lafayette, La., Dixie Bergeron of Snyder, Tx., Betty Hinton of Berwick; and nine grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil “Snookie” Gilmore Jr., Charles T. Gilmore; sister, Myrtle Lois Gilmore; two sons, Jerrel W. Gilmore Jr. and Craig James Gilmore and wife Margaret Mahler Gilmore; and one grandson.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City is in charge of the arrangements.
