Jerry Maxon Applewhite Sr., 78, a native of Bogalusa, La., and a resident of Houma, La., Monday, April 20, at 2:45 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Leger Savoie Applewhite of Houma; sons, Jerry “Max” Applewhite Jr. and wife Denise of Houma, Vernon Applewhite of Houma, and Walter P. Applewhite and wife Kim of Houma; daughters, Renee Guidroz and husband Paul Guidroz of Houma, and Michele Shevlin and husband Steve Shevlin of Carlisle, Pa.; sisters, Sybill Breeland of Slidell, La., Dawanna “Sis” Jordan of Cedar Creek, Ga., and Sara Jenkins of Jeanerette, La.; grandchildren, Blake Pepper, Dylan Pepper, Kyle Shevlin, Callie Shevlin and Whitney Applewhite; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Rivers Applewhite and Nell Baughman Applewhite; brothers, Tim Applewhite, Donald Applewhite and Robert “Bobby” Applewhite; and brothers-in-law, Robert Jordan, Frank Breeland and Buford Jenkins.
He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force He was Baptist and a member of Mulberry Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, golf and working in his shed.
The funeral was Wednesday, April 22, with interment at St. Francis Cemetery #2.
