John Smith, 72, a native and resident of Lockport, La., died Wednesday, September 17.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Harris of Centerville, Ms.; five sons, Casey Smith, Christopher Smith and Anthony Smith of Centerville, Thomas Smith of Grand Rapids, Mi., and James Smith of New Orleans, La.; one brother, Willie Ray Smith of Lockport; one sister, Aidia Taplin of Lockport; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Will Smith and Kadesia Johnson; his companion, Rosa Nell “Ma Ma” Smith; one brother, Joseph Smith; and one sister, Mary Hood.

He was a member of Greater New Fountain Baptist Church in Lockport.

He was buried at Young Ladies Benevolent Cemetery in Raceland, La.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
