John Joseph Smith, 60, a resident of Cut Off, La., died Monday, February 4, 2008.


He is survived by his wife, Mary Mayet Smith; son, Marcus John Smith and wife, Hanna Marie Smith; daughters, Nanci Andre’ Smith, and Angele Mary Smith and fiance, Geddy Micheal Bienvenu; brother, Louis Smith Jr.; sisters, Ann Vizier, Corinne Henderson and Kate Verdin; and grandson, Nathan Charles Smith.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis P. Smith Sr. and Elrita Lafont Smith; sister, Joyce Charpentier; his mother-in-law, Nancy Cretini Mayet; and brothers-in-law, Lou J. Mayet and Norman Vizier.

John was a retired music educator with 24 years service to the community and the arts, which he passed on to his children and others. He was a present employee of Grand Isle Shipyard. He was a loving father, fierce friend and devoted husband. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 07, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off with mass to follow. He will be buried in the church cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
