Dr. John S. Thiele, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dr. Thiele was a pulmonologist. He was respected by his fellow physicians and greatly appreciated by the many patients whom he treated throughout the years in New Orleans, Kenner, Gonzales and Thibodaux. In addition to his love for family, friends and patients, he had a passion for playing golf as often as he could. He enjoyed many vacations at Callaway Gardens; and realized his dream of playing golf on courses in Scotland a few years ago. His closest friends also recall enjoying a good cigar with him on special occasions, while listening to Elvis.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Spindel Thiele; children, John Jr. (Jenny), Kevin (Amanda) and Leslie (Timmy) Thiele; four grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, John III and soon to be Jacob; brother, Mike Thiele; sisters, Susan McCarthy (Gary), Joni (Danny) Rockwell and Jane (John) Anderson; aunt, Sister Mary Margaret Prenger OSU; in-laws, Richard and Ann Spindel; siblings-in-law,Ricky and Kim, Keith and Judy, and Michael and Loraine Spindel; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict Sr. and Marion Prenger Thiele.
His family extends their sincere gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and others who cared for him during his illness, most recently Canon Hospice.
A special thank you to “CB”, his longtime friend and receptionist for all she has done for him through the years they worked together.
He is interred at Metairie Cemetery.
