Johnny P. Defelice Jr., 79, a native of Gretna, La., and resident of Larose, La., died Sunday, March 20, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Defelice was a retired cattleman, member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and a church usher for many years. He was a lifetime member of Farm Bureau, Cattleman’s Association, and Lafourche Fire District. He was past Grand Marshall of the French Food Festival and member of the Larose Senior Citizens Center. He was also a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.


He is survived by his wife, Jennie; son, Kirk (Nora); daughter, Jennifer (Rodney) Landry; one grandson, Ryan (Erica) Defelice; one great-grandson, Aidan; brothers, Raymond (Vivian) and Claude (Bonnie); and sister, Claudette (Jim).


He was preceded in death by his parents, Euphrasie and John DeFelice Sr.; and one brother, Stephen.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Center at Thibodaux Regional who treated him with the latest and best technology with such compassion. We also appreciated St. Joseph Hospice’s professional, yet tender care. We are extremely grateful for all the prayers of our church community and we are thankful for our parish priests, Fathers Albert Santiago and Ramji Shouraiah.

He is buried at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery.
