Lenten Gumbo served for 20 years, still going strong

Jonathan L. Mitchell, 28, a native of Thibodaux, La., and resident of Houston, Texas, died Sunday, March 7, 2010.
Mr. Mitchell was Catholic. He played semi-pro football for the Texas Gators and was a coach.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bradley Mitchell of Houston; mother, Patricia (Melvin) Ballard of Thibodaux; stepmother, Chiquita Mitchell of Covington; daughter, Jaslyn Simone Mitchell of Houston; brothers, Samuel and Aaron Mitchell of Covington, Keonta Ballard of Thibodaux, Frank IV (Deanna), Carl (Bridget), Corey (Michelle) and Rod Mitchell of Houston; sisters, Ophelia Mitchell of Thibodaux, Verazonda and Dominique Mitchell of Covington; and grandfather, Joshua Sylvin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Mitchell III; and grandparents, Frank Jr. and Ophelia Mitchell, and Octavia Carter.
He is buried at Moses Baptist Church Cemetery in Thibodaux.
Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of arrangements.
