Joseph Gonzalez “J.G.” Duplantis, Jr., 88, a resident of Houma, La. and a native of Little Caillou, La., died Sunday, May 31.


He is survived by his children, Wayne A. Duplantis Sr. and wife Gloria, Douglas J. Duplantis and wife Deborah, Mary M. Duplantis, Linda A Rodrigue and husband Francis, Michael J. Duplantis, Timothy P. Duplantis and wife Stephanie, Ellen D. Pontiff and husband Kevin, Patrick J. Duplantis and Glenn T. Duplantis; grandchildren, Wayne Jr., Brandy, Andrew, Kristi, David, Daniel, Becky, Douglas, Sara, Eric, John, Greg, Jennifer, Matthew, Joshua, Kayla, Amy and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Rylie, Gavin, Philip and Evan; and great-great-grandchildren, Philip Jr., Morgen and Malina.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Whipple Duplantis; son, Joseph Duplantis III; grandchild, Don Lirette; parents, Joseph Gonzalez Duplantis Sr. and Lillian D. Duplantis; paternal grandparents, Felecian Eugene Duplantis and Amelia Mary Picou; and maternal grandparents, Perrin and Uphrasia Duplantis.


He was born November 18, 1920 and was a 1937 graduate of Terrebonne High School. He attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the ROTC then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1941 where he specialized in chemical warfare. He was a member of the U.S.S. Samuel Chase, APA 26, an attack transport ship. J.G. was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and a friend to many people during his eighty-eight year journey. He was a business owner, land developer and home builder involved in many endeavors including a produce business, a construction business, co-founder of Houma Well Service, founder of RGS supermarkets, owner of Lafourche Concrete, Statewide Trailer Sales, Inc. and Faith Trailer Courts.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
