Joseph “Joe” Hargrave, 86, a native of Cow Island and a resident of Morgan City, La., died Saturday, June 19, 2010.


Mr. Hargrave was the founder of Hargrave Funeral Home. He was a kind, compassionate man, who was a friend to all. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1950. He was a World War II and Korean conflict veteran and he served his country in the Navy and was attached to the Marine Corp. as a pharmacist mate. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, the VFW, American Legion and The Marine Corp. League.


He is survived by his wife, Bernice Hargrave; son, Joseph “Joe” (Frances) Hargrave Jr.; daughter, Jo Anne Driggers; brothers, Joseph “Buster” and Remy Hargrave; sisters, Ozite Trahan, Mavis Fishback, Mary Lee Coulter, Eugenia Ryder and Patsy Stansbury; grandchildren, Wade (Marlo) and Shannon Hargrave, Kelly (Matthew) Becnel and Harold (Ramona) Driggers; and great-grandchildren, Tayla and Harold Driggers Jr., Hayden and Holden Hargrave and Logan Becnel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Remy and Alphonsine Hargrave; brothers, Leon “Pete”, Eugene, Odillion “Dagg”, Joseph “Weston” and Raymond Hargrave; and sister, Gloria Fay Hargrave Chaisson.

He is interred at the Morgan City Mausoleum.
