Joseph “J.C.” Clarence Callahan, 81, a native and resident of Houma, La., died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, May 31.

He is survived by his very devoted and deeply loved wife of 60 years, Louise Quick Callahan of Houma; his daughters and their husbands, all of whom adored him, Christine Hebert and husband, Richard, Darnell Burkett and husband, Billy, Joretta Landry and husband, Ron, and Janna Positerry and husband, Kerrel, of Houma; grandchildren, Ricky Hebert and wife, Tara, Nicole Pierce and husband, Kip, Holly Griffin and husband, Miles, Richelle Bergeron and husband, Jason, Raequel Hebert and friend, Lee Rembert, Jerome “Pepe” Chauvin Jr. and wife, Alanna, Renae Neil and husband, Denny, Kallie Williams and husband, Ed, Rachael Hebert and husband, Kiley, Katie Positerry, Ryan Hebert and wife, Christy, Rebecca Harrall and companion, Jermaine, Ashley Berkett and companion, Cullen, Matt Burkett, Monique Wright and husband, David, and Michelle Verrett and husband, Danny; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Leontine Rogers Callahan; brothers, Ward Callahan, Morris “Fatty” Callahan and Hubert Callahan; and sister, Marie Antoinette “Poole” Miller.

He was a retired derrick barge foreman for 30 years with J. Ray McDermott. He was a U.S. Army veteran from World War II and a parishioner of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home with mass to follow. He will be buried at St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery.
