Joseph Harold “Buddy” Meaux, 80, a native of Abbeville, La., and resident of Destrehan, La., died Friday, March 25, 2011.


Mr. Meaux was a retired boat captain and a veteran Sergeant of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Lafourche Lodge 427 and a member and past master mason for St. Charles Lodge 445, a member of American Legion Post 83, a 32nd degree mason in the Valley of Baton Rouge, a Masonic representative to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association. He was a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church and a Chosin Reservoir Survivor.


He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Welch Meaux; son, Timmy (Jane) Meaux; brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Meaux; three grandchildren, Chad Matherne, Ryan (Angie) Meaux and Allison (Jared) Trahan; and four great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ava Trahan, and Lila Grace and Adalyn Rose Meaux.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Meaux; daughter, Charlotte Matherne; parents, Edias and Gladys Stansbury Meaux; and sister, Wanda Mae Breaux.

He is interred at Holy Savior Cemetery. (Falgout)
