Joy Muro Kraus, 81, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.


She is survived by her husband, Andrew Preston Kraus; sons, Gary (Connie) and Bennett (fiancée Kathleen Rieve) Kraus; six grandchildren, Paul, Kristen, Andrew and Shaun Kraus and Kelly and Leigh Rhodes; and two great-grandchildren, Kara and Peyton Kraus.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emile and Rita Humphrey Muro; and grandchild, Kara Kraus.


Mrs. Kraus was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She worked for H&R Block and, during World War II, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans. She supported numerous charities and Christian organizations. She also enjoyed cooking.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 8 a.m. until service time, at Grace Lutheran Church in Houma. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the church.

She is buried at Hope Mausoleum.
