Joyce Belanger, 89, a resident of Morgan City, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Cornerstone Village.

Mrs. Belanger was a florist for 50 years, and earned a reputation as a seamstress for creating Mardi Gras costumes for royalty. An active member of her church community, she often joked that she just missed being a saint by a day since her birthday, March 18, fell between St. Patrick’s and St. Joseph’s days.

She is survived by her sister, Myrle Williams of Slidell; daughters, Judith (Connelly) Vining of Patterson and Ellen (Tom) Grote of Lafayette; grandchildren, Valerie (John) Bering of Jeanerette, Brian Vining of Patterson, Darren Grote of Toluca Lake, Calif., and Christy Thorla of Prairieville; and one great-granddaughter, Camille Thorla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Dean and Inez Shaw; husband, Iven J. Belanger; and brother, C. Dean Shaw Jr.

She is buried at Morgan City Cemetery.
