Junius J. Portier Sr.

Junius J. Portier Sr., 74, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Monday, October 13.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Blanchard Portier; son, Junius J. Portier Jr. and wife Rhoda Shelly Portier; daughters, Dana P. Morvant and husband Jim, JoAnn P. Haydell and husband Nathan, and Wendy P. Herridge and husband Kevin; brother, Hayes J. Portier Sr.; sister, Ruby P. Bernard; grandchildren, Jamie Morvant, Alexis Morvant, Victor Morvant, Britney Haydel, Jenna Portier and Kate Herridge; and great-grandchildren, Carley Morvant and Landon Morvant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Serville and Lillian Hebert Portier; brothers, Alvin J. Portier Sr., Delvin J. Portier Sr. and Lawrence J. Portier; and sisters, Anna Mae P. Hebert, Virginia P. Bergeron and Augustine Portier.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a former member of W.O.W. and the Houma Lions Club. He was the owner of Portiers Vineyards and a parishioner of St. Gregory Catholic Church in Houma.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart Failure Research Fund, Oschner Clinic Foundation Philanthropy, 1514 Jefferson Hwy, BH-240, New Orleans, La. 70121, or a preferred mass.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, October 17, at Falgout Funeral Home in Houma. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 18, at St. Gregory Catholic Church will mass to follow at 11 a.m. He will be buried at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.
