T’bonne businesses consider post-hurricane recovery plan

Lewis Erwin, 86, a native of Farmington, Mo., and a resident of Raceland, La., died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010.


Mr. Erwin joined the USAAF in 1940 at the age of 16, served his country during World War II in North Africa, Sicily and Italy until 1947 and then transferred to the USAF. He served during the Korean conflict and retired in 1962 with 22 years of military service after obtaining the rank of master sergeant. He was employed in the offshore industry as an executive steward and completed his working career as manager of Erwin’s Antique Bank. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great storyteller to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Sloan Erwin; sons, Louis (Marguerite), David (Darlene) and James Erwin; daughter, Sadie (Hugh) Joiner; sisters, Eunice Herrod and Katherine (James) Heck; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Erwin is buried at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
