Lillian Streva Russo, 92, a native of Morgan City, La., and resident of Berwick, La., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.
Mrs. Russo was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and worked in the family business, Russo’s Supermarket, with her husband for many years until their retirement. She was involved with the Berwick Volunteer Fire Department and finished her husband’s term of office with the St. Mary Parish Police Jury after his death. She was awarded the key to the city and was also honored by having the upper room of the fire station named after her. She never refused a call for help from family, friends or strangers. She had boundless energy, which she put to use in serving others.
She is survived by her friend and sister-in-law, Catherine Russo; 29 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Russo; parents, Cologero and Bonita Streva; and siblings, Melva, Frank, Joseph, Leo, Sam, Angelo, John and August Streva and Nancy Galler.
Burial is at Morgan City Cemetery. (Hargrave)
