Loyd Burson, 98, a native of Atlanta, Tx., and resident of Houma, La., died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007.


Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hanner Funeral Home in Atlanta, with burial in Law Chapel Cemetery in Piney Grove, Tx.

He is survived by two sons, Marlon Burson and wife, Sally, of Slidell, La., and Mark Burson of Houston, Tx.; two daughters, Janice Bush and husband, Bob, of Olive Branch, Miss., and Marianne Vordick and husband, Wayne, of Houma; 11 grandchildren, Michael Burson of Slidell, Marla Hardin of Dallas, Tx., Paul Burson and Christine Burson of Houston, Linda Smith and Karen Hoehn of Memphis, Tenn., Mike Bush of Yuma, Ariz., David Vordick of Rockville, Md., Chris Vordick, Jeffrey Vordick and Betsy V. Breerwood of Houma; and eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Burson and Cade Burson of Slidell, Evelyn Janice Burns of Memphis, Gabriel Vordick and Jillian Vordick, Mackenzie Vordick, Gavin Vordick and Drew Breerwood of Houma.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Faye Riddle Burson; his parents, Ebb Burson and Effie Steed Burson; two brothers, Floyd and Ebb Burson; and two sisters, Annie Mae Eagle and Irene Coffman.

He was retired from Wheless Drilling Co. as assistant superintendent after 42 years of service in the oilfield industry. He was a mason and a member of the Houma Lodge and was Baptist.

He will be always remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, honesty and integrity and his love for his family. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
