Maria Davis Millet, 96, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, April 18.


She is survived by her son, John C. Carroll Jr. and wife Barbara Smith Carroll; daughter, Andree’ Millet Richoux and husband Royal “Woogie” Richoux; brother, William J. “Bill” Davis; sister, Marie D. Burcin; grandchildren, John C. Carroll III and wife Jane, Patrick Carroll, Michelle Richoux Mendel and husband Gili, Jennifer Richoux Robichaux and husband Jay, Vicki Brown and husband David, and Douglas Hofstetter and wife Brenda; great-grandchildren, Brittany Carroll, Brandy Carroll, Rebecca Mendel, Ethan Mendel, Dylan Robichaux, Amanda Hofstetter, Jeffrey Collins and wife Trista, Laura Gonzalez and husband Sidney II, Brooke Hofstetter, David Hofstetter, and Dylan Hofstetter; and great-great-grandchildren, Sidney Gonzales III, Austin Gonzales and Kylie Gonzales, Jordan Collins and Sarah Collins.


She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Millet; parents, William T. Davis and Marie Pertuit Davis; brothers, James Davis, George Davis and wife Peggy, and Eugene “Gene” Davis; sisters, Ruth Daspit and husband Claude, Wilma Young and husband Pete, and Louise Eschete and husband Speck; sister-in-law, Polly Davis; and grandson, Michael Hofstetter.

She was a dedicated member of Terrebonne Garden Club for 58 years, having served as president and chairperson of numerous committees through the years. She was an enthusiastic member participating in a variety of garden club activities. In 1998 she was named to the Louisiana Federation of Garden Club Circle of Roses for her many years of service. She was a retired Deputy Registrar of Voters for Terrebonne Parish. She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and a lifetime member of the PTA.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Chauvin Funeral Home and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday April 25, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. A religious service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
