Mark D. White, 49, a native of Luling, LA. and resident of Houma, LA., died peacefully of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) at home surrounded by family and friends at 3:43 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2007.


Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Bishop Greg Stock of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux, LA..


He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Cydney Smith White; one daughter, Lauren White Harmon; his parents, Decker and Gloria White; two sisters, Kristin White and Sheryl Bonilla and husband, Henry; two brothers, Keith White and wife, Sue, and Darren White and wife, Linda; one sister-in-law, Stevette Anderson and husband, Dwight; his mother-in-law, Janet Smith; seven nephews; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Missak and Verkin Selian, Perry and Gladys White; and his father-in-law, Stephen Smith.


Also at Mark’s bedside were dear friends, Jonathan Bruce, Jeanne Breaux, Becky and Paul Ianazzo, Dr. John Shults, Tara Stringer and Shannon Huber.

He was a 1976 graduate of Hahnville High School and graduated from Louisiana State University. He received his master’s degree and was a practicing nurse anesthetist (CRNA) at Chabert Medical Center.

He touched so many lives because of his passion for a diversity of interests. He loved RX-7s, auto racing, guns, politics, history and medicine. His magnetic personality drew friends from many fields. On any given night his visitors could include doctors, nurses, engineers, car enthusiasts, National Rifle Association members or Washington politics. He truly lived a full and active life until his last day.

Chauvin Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
