Martha Ann Woods Shareef, 53, a native of Thibodaux, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died in the line of duty, Wednesday, August 20.


She is survived by her husband, Rashid Shareef of Houma; three daughters and spouses, Marsiah and Kevin Conner Jr., Khaleelah and Bryan Johnson and Sana and Orlando Shareef; two sons and spouse, Rashid Akil Shareef and Lamar and Klelekika Shareef; two sisters and spouse, Ida M. Hunt and Edith and Clarence Scoby; five brothers and spouses, Clifton and Mary Ann, the Rev. Paul and Pearl, Elder Andrew and Gwen, Warren and Constance and Edison Woods; sister-in-law, Patricia Myles Woods; 12 grandchildren; and numerous relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Woods; and three brothers, Joseph Jr., Major and Elder Calvin Woods.


She was a deputy sheriff with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. She was a devoted member of Morning Star Baptist Church and a member of Ruby E. Williams Auxiliary, the Phyllis Chapter of the Phylaxis Society, Essie J. Cole No. 47 Heroines of Jericho, Bertha D. Jamison Court No. 8 Order of Cyrene, Norman D. Jones Assembly No. 330 Order of the Golden Circle, Platta Court No. 114 Daughters of Isis and Rebecca Chapter No. 23 Order of Eastern Star.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Thibodaux Food Bank.

She was buried at Morning Star Cemetery No. 1 in Thibodaux.

Williams and Southall Funeral Home of Thibodaux is in charge of the arrangements.
