Mary Elizabeth “Bettie” Chauvin Wurzlow, 93, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Tuesday, Aug. 18.


She is survived by her beloved in-laws, Kermit Wurzlow, Peggy Wurzlow and Jeanne “Deuce” Wurzlow; and cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family who loved her and will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Wurzlow Jr., one son, Frank W. Wurzlow III; and parents, J. Farquhard Chauvin and Mary Allen McBride Chauvin.


She was a charter member of the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society and a dedicated historical preservationist. She served on numerous state boards and organizations dedicated to the preservation of Louisiana’s historical treasures. She was also former teacher with the Terrebonne Parish School System.

Donations to the Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society are respectfully suggested in lieu of flowers.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at First Presbyterian Church in Houma with the funeral service to follow. Burial will at Magnolia Cemetery in Houma.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
