Mary Frances Prevost Celestin, 89, a native and resident of Gibson, La., died Monday, October 27.


She is survived by her four daughters, Audrey C. Elder and husband George of Chattanooga, Tn., Barbara C. Harrison of New Orleans, La., Rose C. Pitre of Gibson and Judy C. Gobert and husband Michael of Orange, Tx.; three sons, Wesley Celestin and wife Brenda, Ronald Celestin and wife Gwendolyn of Gibson, and Dwight Celestin and wife Rosie of Orange; her sister, Lena Carrol of New Orleans; her brother, Myles Prevost of Sun City, Ca.; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual children, grandchildren and dear friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Celestin Sr.; her parents, Isaac and Frances Matthews Provost; four sons, Joseph Celestin Jr., Donald Royal Celestin, Fredrick Celestin and Calvert James Celestin; four sisters, Ethel Brisco, Velma Brown, Ophelia Turner and Equila Williams; two brothers, Wesley and Norris Prevost; and her grandchild, Treva Monet Pitre.

She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was buried at Mount Pilgrim Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
