Mary D. “Mama” Woods, 91, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died at her home, Sunday, September 2, 2007.

She is survived by three daughters, Ida M. Hunt and Martha Woods, and Edith Scoby and her husband Clarence; six sons, Clifton Woods, Sr. and his wife Mary Ann, Elder Calvin Woods and his wife Patricia, the Rev. Paul Woods and his wife Pearl, Edison Woods, Warren Woods and his wife Constance, and Andrew Woods and his wife Gwen; one sister, Georgia M. Henderson; three brothers-in-law, Louis Woods, Alfred Woods, and Henry Henderson; three sisters-in-law, Carrie Woods, Mable Woods, and Jessie M. Dyer; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and adopted children.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Woods Sr.; her parents, Edith P. and Walter Dyer Sr.; two sons, Joseph, Jr. and Major Woods; three sisters, Beulah Edmonds, Alma Dyer, and Vivian Robinson; six brothers, Arthur, Albert, George, Johnny, Joseph, and Lawrence Dyer; one grandson, Clarence Hunt III; and one great-grandson, Chase Brown.

Mary was a retired cook for the Lafourche Parish School System.

Visitation is Thursday, September 6, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux. She will be buried in Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery No. 1.
